Biography

Christian Utke Schioeler, from Copenhagen, Denmark, is the principal timpanist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) since 2014. From 1992-2014 he held the position as timpanist/percussionist with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra (DNSO), and since 2002 he was a part-time lecturer at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

DNSO is Denmark's leading orchestra, with a busy schedule of weekly live-broadcasted concerts, live-and dry-recordings (CDs and DVD/Blu-ray), as well as touring all over the world. With DNSO, Christian has played under distinguished conductors, such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Herbert Blomstedt, Fabio Luisi, Kurt Sanderling, Christoph Eschenbach and Giuseppe Sinopoli, to name a few. It is all these years of experience Christian is bringing to SSO and NAFA, where he teaches timpani, both Principal Studies and Timpani Repertoire Class.
