Follow Your Heart 跟随自己的心 by Tay Bak Chiang
Tay Bak Chiang, a painter and NAFA alumni, has created an acrylic painting in pigment entitled Follow Your Heart (122x122cm), to raise funds for his alma mater, and has accepted an entrustment for a piece of stone-related artwork. Tay was born in Malaysia, and loved to draw when he was a child. His form teacher told him about an art school in Singapore where he could learn to draw in the future. After graduating from secondary school, he came to Singapore with his father's support and enrolled at NAFA. NAFA, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary in 2023, has launched a fundraising campaign to raise $750,000 through banquets and donations, with a target of $900,000, all of which will be used for NAFA's future development.
In collaboration with Bonhams Singapore, NAFA held its 85th Anniversary Fundraising Dinner on 2 Sep at Capella Singapore, where eight artworks and art items were auctioned off. NAFA was established in 1938 and started with 14 students in a double-storey shophouse in Geylang. The school continues to grow and has produced 13 Cultural Medallion Award winners and 15 Young Artist Award winners. NAFA has also collaborated with renowned institutions such as the University of the Arts London, the Royal College of Music, London and the Central Conservatory of Music in China to produce over 16,000 full-time students and 140,000 part-time students.
