NAFA Saxophone Quartet and é3rio invited to perform in Penang, Malaysia

On 29 and 30 November 2014, the NAFA Saxophone Quartet and é3rio, two ensembles comprising of students and alumni of NAFA, were invited to perform at the Prince of Wales Island International School and the School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) respectively, in Penang, Malaysia. They were accompanied by Head of Composition Studies & Senior Lecturer Dr. Zechariah Goh, as well as Senior Music Assistant Mr. Kelvin Chua.

The groups gave an open rehearsal at the Prince of Wales Island International School prior to their performance. In addition, along with the participation of the NAFA Saxophone Quartet, Dr. Zechariah Goh presented a masterclass and composition talk to the students of the schools to much appreciation and positive reception.

The School of Music would like to acknowledge the kind support of the Prince of Wales Island International School and generous individual donors, in sponsoring the accommodation in Penang as well as travel expenses, respectively.

About NAFA Saxophone Quartet

The NAFA Saxophone Quartet is made up of students who major in saxophone performance at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Since its debut performance in 2013, the quartet has performed at the Singapore Saxophone Symposium 2013 and 2014, the Assisi Hospice Centre, and other venues in Singapore.

In August 2014, the quartet participated in the International Wind Band Festival in Taiwan 2014, organized by the Educational Cultural Centre of Pingjhen City, Taoyuan (桃园县平镇市社教文化中心) and held from 28 July to 10 August. Besides putting up a performance on 3 August as part of an outdoor band marathon, the quartet also had the opportunity of presenting a “flashmob” presentation on 5 August at the Taoyuan International Airport, which was warmly received by locals and visitors alike.

About é3rio

é3rio is a Singapore-based trio consisting of PFO (piano, flute and oboe). Members of é3rio are experienced chamber musicians who enjoy performing music in a collaborative manner.  They are all music graduates who forged their friendship during their years as classmates in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. é3rio gave a successful debut concert in 2014 in Singapore exploring repertoire ranging from a Baroque trio by J.J Quantz to modern works by Jean Damase. é3rio aims to continue to share more PFO music internationally and continue to develop and mature as a performance group.
