International Craft Awards 2017

BA (Hons) 3D Design: New Practice student Marchyntia Dwiayu was named Craft Designer (Gen-Next) of the Year 2017 at the 1st International Craft Awards. She was also the youngest participant to win this award. Held in New Delhi on 14 October 2017, the Awards recognises designers and craftsmen from across the world and their outstanding contributions in sustainable and inclusive development in the craft sector.

Marchyntia's work, 'Hyoo', which integrates craft with design was found by the jury (comprising members from India, Italy and the United Kingdom) as exceptional. A series of handcrafted home décor pieces, Hyoo aims to augment the beauty of natural dyes with traditional weaving patterns. It was created using a combination of the natural dyeing method and traditional wicker work techniques.

The Awards attracted hundreds of submissions from more than 30 countries, with a rigorous judging before the winners were chosen.
