3D Design students’ rendering of proposed improvements to an existing bungalow in Indonesia
In this collaboration between the Institute of Southeast Asian Arts (ISEAA) and NAFA 3D Design Programme on a 10-month Industry Project module, 22 3D Design students explored the idea of ageing-in-place. They will showcase their design-based solutions in response to the social phenomenon of ageing in the region. Through a workshop with renowned local architect, Tay Kheng Soon, individual and team research, as well as site visits and progressive reflections, these students examined the unique cultural and social environments of Singapore and Southeast Asia. Their ultimate goal was to design solutions that fit and complement existing infrastructural, socially and culturally embedded settings for the aged and non-able-bodied seniors.
The solutions showcased in this exhibition attempt to challenge stereotypical notions of ageing within the community. As part of the final module outcome, the students’ exciting concepts will be presented through storyboards, objects and models envisioning and sharing how ageing-in-place can be customised and made consistently possible for generations to come.
