Industry Experience

Ricky has performed in ballets by Jiri Kylian (Stamping Ground); Richard Wherlock (Stetl); Birgit Relitzki (Dornroschen and Winter was hard); Bernd Schindowski (Kaleidoskop); Boi Sakti (The Lost Space and Spirit of Harvest); Jan Di Schynkel (She Is As He Eats); Thierry Maladin (Sextet); Katsura Kan (A Curious Fish); Jean Paul Comelin (Giselle and Requiem); Choo San Goh (Unknown Territory); Val Caniparolin (Lamberena); Andre Prokovsky (La Traviata and Anna Karenina); amongst others and participated as independent artist in major Singapore and International Arts/Dance Festivals around Asia, Europe and America.

Ricky has been a speaker and guest lecturer for dance education at international forums, dance and theatre companies, academies and tertiary institutions such as the United World College of Southeast Asia, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts, Singapore Ballet Academy, Bangkok City Ballet, Chulalongkorn and Thammasat University (Thailand), University Rome - La Sapienza (Italy).

Throughout his working years, Ricky has also been actively involved in leadership and managerial positions in the arts. He was appointed to be part of the assessing panel of Arts Education Programme by the National Arts Council (Singapore) in 2003/04 for Dance; external assessor for Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts (Dance Dept) in 2004 and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts since 2007 to present.

Since 2005, Ricky has been the associate director for Moving Arts, a dance education company, in advocating, conceptualising and developing dance curriculum for schools.

To date, he has choreographed 38 works for both professional companies and institutions.

Some of these choreographies include ‘FREE’ (Full length work, 2014), ‘Tease’ (2013) and ‘AUTOPUS Project’ (Full length work, 2012) for RAW Moves; ‘Turandot’ commissioned by Teatro alla Scala (Milan, Italy 2011); ‘It Appears That…’ commissioned by Esplanade under The Studios (Singapore 2010); ‘Visible Cities’ a co-commissioned and co-production by the Singapore Arts Festival and the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia 2009 (World Premiere), ‘David the best!’ for Drama Box (Musical 2008); “It’s My Life” - a musical 2008 (Presented by Great Eastern and produced by Spare Room Pte Ltd); 'Garden City' for National Day Parade 2007; 'X-ray' for Forward Moves (Singapore Arts Festival 2007 - World Premiere); ‘Comb’ for Lasalle-SIA College of the arts (Da:ns Festival presented by Esplanade 2006); 'Impromptu' for Singapore Management University (Arts & Culture Festival 2006); ‘Cast’ for Dance Horizon Troupe (Singapore) 2006; 'Apparently with no surprise' for The Arts Fission Company (NUS Arts Festival 2006); 'Transparent Ground II' for Ricky Sim & Dancers (M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2006); ‘Reverse’ for Bangkok City Ballet (The Performing Arts Festival 2004, Thailand); ‘Transparent Ground’ for Singapore Dance Theatre (Ballet Under the Stars - 2004; and QUT, Australia - 2003); ‘Unspoken Text’ (New Moves, Australia - 2002);  ‘4 X 4 Unlimited’ for Singapore Dance Theatre (Ballet Under the Stars - 2001); ‘E-man-cipation’ for  Singapore Dance Theatre (Singapore Arts Festival - 2000); 'Schizone' for Ecnad Project Limited (Intonet Programme - 1999); “O’Harinnggg…” for Singapore Dance Theatre (Ballet Under the Stars - 1999); amongst other commissioned works for international festivals and events.
