Lianhe Zaobao did a feature on Menuhin violin champion, Chloe Chua. The journalist took a peek in the personal life of the 11-year-old talent and her achievements, at the same time interviewing her and her parents. Below is a short summary of the 6-page article:
11-year-old Chloe Chua is the junior champion of the Menuhin International Violin Competition this year. She learnt to play the piano at 2.5-years-old and started playing the violin at 4-years-old. Her mother, who is a music educator, shared that she initially exposed her daughter to music so that she can discover beauty in life. Chloe practices the violin for 5 hours every day. While her parents see her musical talent, they were surprised by her obsession with music at such a tender age. Her parents who were supportive of her beliefs and ideas, divided their resources to supervise her. One develops her music cognition, and the other focuses on cultivating her mentally and physically, as well as expanding her world view.
The journalist recounted her first meeting with Chloe, which was right after the Menuhin Competition. The reporter came to the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts to interview her together with her violin teacher, Mr Yin Ke, who started coaching Chloe at 4-years-old. He has accompanied her throughout various competitions and commented that she is a passionate and hardworking child who strives for perfectionism. It was also Chloe’s perseverance which left a deep impression in the reporter’s mind. Chloe has been receiving quite a bit of international fame. Just two months ago, she appeared in a TV programme in China, Fantastic Baby.
