CROWBAR CHALLENGE 2018
As part of the Crowbar competition, the Crowbar Challenge
was held in October. Groups were given a limited period of
time to prepare and present a solution to a given brief.
We were delighted that three NAFA teams were named
second and third runners-up and finalists.
S.E.A. FOCUS ART FAIR
S.E.A. Focus is an exciting initiative by STPI
— Creative Workshop & Gallery. It aims to
foster a deeper appreciation and increased
demand for Southeast Asian modern
and contemporary art through dynamic
collaborations with international and local
galleries. At the inaugural event which took
the form of a boutique art fair, NAFA’s Arts
Management students were given the honour
of serving as multi-language guides. The art
fair was held at the Gillman Barracks visual
arts precinct from 23 to 27 January 2019.
HERITAGE TRAILS
Between September and November 2018, as part of the Managing
Heritage and Community Arts module, Arts Management students
worked closely with the National Heritage Board (NHB) to acquire
skills in trail guiding, development and design. During a curatorial
training conducted by the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC), students
gained a deeper understanding of the Malay culture and the
historical artefacts found within the heritage centre from senior
docents. NHB and MHC Education and Community Outreach
officers also provided consultation for the students during the
conceptualisation and design of the trails. Afterwards, students
worked in teams to develop their own trails for primary and
preschool groups, with one interesting approach using gamification
techniques in the creation of learning programmes for preschoolers.
The heritage trails were featured in The Straits Times, Berita Harian
and on Suria.
