YOUNG MUSIC PRODIGIES


                                                                         Since Chloe Chua’s win at the prestigious
                                                                         Menuhin Competition in April 2018, the music
                                                                         prodigy has received numerous invitations to play
                                                                         with other esteemed musicians. She performed
                                                                         alongside the Youth Symphony Orchestra of
                                                                         Russia and the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra;
                                                                         at the President*s Design Award Ceremony;
                                                                         Community Chest Awards; and the Cultural
                                                                         Medallion and Young Artist Award Ceremony.
                                                                         Chua also appeared on a television programme
                                                                         in China featuring amazingly talented kids.
                                                                               Our School of Young Talents’ piano
                                                                               students won a total of seven prizes at
                                                                               the 22  Japan Hamamatsu PIARA Piano
                                                                                    nd
                                                                               Competition in July 2018. These included
                                                                                1  Prize in the Senior A category, the
                                                                               st
                                                                               PIARA Grand Prix, Shizuoka Prefectural
                                                                               Governor’s Award, as well as 2  Prize in
                                                                                                      nd
                                                                               the Senior B category and the Steinway
                                                                               Award.
                                                                               For the sixth time, our students won the
                                                                               top awards at the Young Talents Project.
                                                                               In August 2018, pianists Lim Shi Han
                                                                               and Ng Ee Oon won the Senior category
                                                                               and Junior category respectively. Lim was
                                                                               also the competition’s overall winner.

                                                                         At the 2018 National Chinese Music Competition
                                                                         in December, our students won a total of eight
                                                                         prizes, bagging every award in the Dizi and Pipa
                                                                         Junior categories.





              OUTSTANDING ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENTS


              In August 2018, the Gold award for Secondary Level in the Draw My Stamp
              Story Art Competition, organised by the Singapore Philatelic Museum, was
              won by 13-year-old Goh Kang Kiat.

              The Junior Art department submitted 22 artworks for the 20  Kanagawa
              Biennial World Children’s Art Exhibition. Of these submissions, four were
              awarded the Kanagawa Prize, including one published work. This inspiring
              event exhibits art by children from all over the world and seeks to further
              the understanding of diverse global cultures and lifestyles. The competition
              attracted more than 27,000 entries.

              The Junior Art teaching staff also participated in several exhibitions in 2018.
              Printmaking artist April Ng showcased her work at Motionless Boundary 静界,
              Tainan, Taiwan and Singapore; 9  International Printmaking Biennial of Douro

              2018, Portugal; Painters, Onomichi, Japan; International Biennial Print Exhibit:
              2018 ROC, Taichung, Taiwan; and 16 times ART, Weißenthurm, Germany.

              Ceramic artist Teo Huey Ling presented at New Orientalia — IAC Members’
              Exhibition, New Taipei City, Taiwan; Zagreb Ex Tempore 2018, Zagreb, Croatia;
              and On An Ending Note, Singapore.

              Artworks by Oh Mei Lee also appeared at Dark Moments, Naked Dog,
              Singapore.
