NAFA FOUNDATION PROGRAMME

The NAFA Foundation Programme (NFP) commenced
           on 4 March 2019 with 53 students. The 12-month
course, over three trimesters, aims to adequately
prepare students interested in the arts to successfully
enrol in and complete their diploma courses at NAFA.
It covers a range of areas to equip students with broad
skill sets, nurturing them in the essential technical,
artistic and literacy skills required to help them thrive
at their next level of studies.

The course is targeted primarily at Normal (Academic)
students who have completed Secondary 4. They
possess the creative inclinations and aspirations
to become an artist, designer or performer, but
have experienced limited access or opportunity to
develop their innate artistic potential. The course will
introduce students to a breadth of possibilities as comprehensive foundation will prepare them appropriately for their
inspired individuals and enable them to discover their transition from secondary school to a specialised arts course at the
talents and strengths. Undergoing an intensive and tertiary level.

           RE:BENCH

A public competition for designers aged 35 and under, Re:Bench encourages
the submission of bench design ideas to be featured in public spaces around
Singapore. A total of 94 proposals were received, with 14 winning designs
selected. Three sets of benches were fabricated and installed at Marina Bay,
Singapore City Gallery and Singapore Sports Hub for the public’s enjoyment.
The competition was organised as part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s
(URA) Our Favourite Place, a programme that supports projects initiated and
implemented by the community to enliven public spaces across Singapore.
Of the 14 winning entries, four were by NAFA students — Xie Wenru, Jane Yu
Wai Ching, Guan Haotian and Yu Yang. Their innovative designs helped breathe
new life into the old timber seats of the former National Stadium. The students,
who graduated in 2018, conceived these designs as part of their curriculum
modules in their Year 3 diploma studies.

The benches were launched at the opening of the revamped Singapore City
Gallery and the new Architecture & Urban Design Excellence (AUDE) Space
           at the URA Centre.
