Chinatown Mid-Autumn
Festival 2017
In this third collaboration with Kreta
Ayer — Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative
Committee, seven Year 1 students from
the four diploma courses in 3D Design
came together to design lanterns for the
Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2017.
On 23 September 2017, these beautiful
lanterns and a magnificent 12-metre tall
tree centrepiece were illuminated during
the Opening Ceremony of the Chinatown
celebrations. More than 1,000 handcrafted
LED lanterns lit up Eu Tong Sen Street,
New Bridge Road and South Bridge Road
until 19 October 2017. The designs were
inspired by Singapore’s traditional lanterns,
popular in the 1960s to 1980s, awakening
fond memories for many.
