Legacy
In collaboration with the Institute of Southeast Asian Arts,
the School of Music presented chamber music works by pioneer
generation composer, educator and Cultural Medallion recipient
Leong Yoon Pin at the Victoria Concert Hall. An audio CD
containing a live recording of some of these unpublished and
critical compositions was launched in conjunction with
the concert.
‘Legacy’ not only reflected Mr Leong’s compositional genius,
but also his contributions to the School of Music when it was
set up in 1984, including his guidance and tutelage towards
generations of music students. To this end, the School of Music
also showcased the finalists of the NAFA Music Essentials
Concerto Competition and NAFA GTAR Concerto Competition,
in a display of musical excellence.
Encounters:
Poon Lian, 50 Years of Art
方良缘艺五十
‘Encounters: Poon Lian, 50 Years of Art’ is Singaporean artist and
NAFA alumnus Poon Lian’s 4th solo exhibition, featuring works
that document the artist’s practice over the past 50 years.
Poon graduated from NAFA in 1969, where he majored in
Western painting while training rigorously under pioneer artist,
Chen Wen Hsi, with whom he studied Chinese ink painting.
Equally comfortable in the draughtsman’s qualities of oil and
Chinese ink, his work draws inspiration from his extensive travels
around Asia, as well as everyday life. Sketches and drawings
produced by the artist in the 1960s, many of which had never
been published before, were also exhibited for the first time
in this survey exhibition.
