Diego Rivera:
Pride of Mexico
Widely regarded as the most prominent figure in the Mexican
muralist movement, Diego Rivera’s extraordinary body of work
represents various facets in art history such as naturalism and
cubism, paradigms that deeply influenced Mexican painters of
his time. NAFA and the Embassy of Mexico brought 34 pieces of
historical art from the state of Veracruz in Mexico and two mural
reproductions, all produced during the 52 years of Master Rivera’s
prolific career. Ranging from landscapes to still life, portraits,
nudes and scenes of indigenous daily life, the works deployed a
range of techniques in painting, aquarelle, collage, pencil, coal and
ink drawings, offering a glimpse into the prolific life and works of
Diego Rivera.
Disney’s Cinderella
Inspired Dresses
In conjunction with the release of Disney’s Cinderella in
Singapore on 12 March 2015, NAFA collaborated with Walt Disney
Studios Singapore and Swarovski Singapore to produce four
Cinderella-inspired dresses. The dresses were designed by
Erica Devi Handika, a fashion student at NAFA under the mentorship
of Mr Anthony Tan, Vice Dean of NAFA Fashion Studies Programmes.
She drew inspiration from the movie’s three iconic characters,
Cinderella, Fairy Godmother and Wicked Stepmother.
The four spectacular dresses were revealed at a runway fashion
show at 313@Somerset atrium on 7 March 2015 and put on display
thereafter at 313@Somerset atrium from 8 to 14 March 2015 and
Kallang Wave Mall atrium from 15 to 29 March 2015. The project
received extensive publicity across broadcast and print media
including Channel 5, Channel News Asia, Today, and 8 Days.
