STAR STUDENTS
Tan Phebe Christine Sutantio
and Ko Na Yeon
Diploma in Design (Furniture and Spatial)
NAFA students Tan Phebe Christine Sutantio and Ko Na Yeon, and
Porndee Chua from Singapore University of Technology and Design
made it to the grand finals of IKEA Singapore’s Young Designer
Awards 2017 with their design, Taboat. A solution for people in
flood-prone countries, Taboat doubles as a floatation device in
emergencies. While flash floods occur only once or twice yearly,
neighbourhoods can stay flooded for a long time, greatly disrupting
the routines of the inhabitants. By reducing direct contact with dirty
floodwater, residents are not only able to enjoy improved hygiene
and health, but also continue with their daily lives more easily.

Hausley’s work aimed to draw out the quiet and immaculate
environment of the phase of resurrection, delineating the
way of Buddhism’s definitive objective. The judges were
impressed by the design inspiration and overall intent, which
were conveyed with efficacious clarity. The SILA Awards
is the only tertiary-level student design competition for
landscape architecture students in Singapore, which attracts
submissions from around the region.
