Overseas Educational Trip
to Bangkok
Senior Design & Media Lecturers Dr Lim Poh Teck and Tan Ngeup Khun
led a group of 19 Design & Media and 13 Fine Art students on an educational
trip to Bangkok. Professor Suppakorn, Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied
Art at Chulalongkorn University, supported by his senior teaching staff Dr Patcha
and Trid, conducted a workshop for the students entitled ASEAN Identity.
The workshop involved design students from Birmingham Institute of Art and
Design, and explored our common ASEAN identity, tradition and culture. As part of the
workshop, the students visited Ayutthaya, an old city near Bangkok, as well as museums,
temples and other historical and cultural sites. From 23 March to 1 April 2016, the 32
students exhibited work (inspired by the trip) at ON AIR Gallery.
ImaginAsia 2016
After the educational trip to Bangkok, Senior Design & Media Lecturer
Dr Lim Poh Teck and three students were invited, by Professor Suppakorn, to
the ImaginAsia workshop in Ayutthaya, Thailand. The theme for this year was
Asian Heritage and People Mobility. The objectives were to strengthen the
collaboration and connection among Asian institutions in digital media and
the arts; encourage students and faculty members from Asian institutions to
work together on the same topic; and enhance mutual interests and share,
discuss and exchange knowledge of the current and contemporary issues
among Asian Nations.
