The Firebird


          On 26 October 2016 at the Victoria Concert Hall, the NAFA Orchestra
          presented an evening of diverse masterpieces, titled The Firebird, under
          the direction of Maestro Lim Yau. The captivating concert included Igor
          Stravinsky’s breathtaking Firebird Suite (1945), with opening selections
          from Georges Bizet’s widely-acclaimed Carmen. Senior Music Lecturer and
          Head of Vocal Studies Dr Jessica Chen was the soloist for Manuel de Falla’s
          Siete canciones populares españolas (Seven Popular Spanish Songs).

          Directed by Maestro Lim Yau, the NAFA Chamber Choir, along with the
          Singapore Symphony Chorus, The Philharmonic Chamber Choir, and the                                Image Courtesy of Singapore Symphony Orchestra
          Singapore Symphony Orchestra, performed Anton Bruckner’s magnificent
          Mass No. 3 in F minor and Arvo Pärt’s Te Deum. Alumni Lu Heng also
          performed the ison (tape) as part of the orchestra. This sensational concert
          was held at the Esplanade Concert Hall on 15 October 2016.












                                                                             CENTRE FOR LIFELONG EDUCATION

                                                                                              50plus 2017


                                                                  NAFA’s Centre for Lifelong Education (CLE), a partner of the
                                                                    Council for Third Age (C3A), participated in 50plus 2017
                                                                    organised by C3A. Held at Suntec Singapore Convention
                                                                     & Exhibition Centre from 24 to 26 March 2017, the event
                                                                    enabled CLE to reach out to baby boomers and seniors to
                                                                  encourage active learning, and to allow them to gain insights
                                                                into ageing issues. More than 650 enquiries were received and
                                                                   some seniors signed up for courses on the spot. During the
                                                                three-day event, CLE also conducted 13 mini workshops in the
                                                                   areas of drawing, printmaking and fashion jewellery making.

                                                                                Development Courses


             The part-time student population in the Centre for Lifelong Education (CLE) increased by 5.8% from last year. Almost 300 students
            signed up for courses under the National Silver Academy scheme, and approximately 800 students enrolled for courses approved for
          SkillsFuture Credit to develop their personal or professional skills. CLE also launched new courses approved for SkillsFuture Credit and
                      offered in conjunction with the National Silver Academy such as Use of Music to Promote Learning; Drawing Essentials;
                          Creating your own Children’s Picture Book; and Practical Story Crafting. These were met with positive responses.
