Collaboration with Mediacorp on Youth Series
In July 2016, Senior Design & Media Lecturer Matthew Foo held collaborative talks
with Mediacorp for a youth series entitled YXY: Youth by Youth to be featured on
television programme On the Red Dot. This series, the first national TV tie-up
between Mediacorp and four institutes of higher learning in Singapore, explored
issues affecting youths today. On 2 December 2016, the episode featuring NAFA
students was aired on Channel 5. On 24 November, the students were presented
with certificates of participation by Guest of Honour Dr Janil Puthucheary,
Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information, and

SCHOOL OF ARTS MANAGEMENT, DANCE & THEATRE
The Little India Heritage Trail
Organised in partnership with the National Heritage Board, NAFA’s Arts
Management programme conducted its first heritage trail in Little India,
between March and April 2017, for approximately 150 PAP Community
Foundation Kindergarten students. The Little India Heritage Trail featured
curated routes conceptualised and executed by graduating students from
Diploma in Arts Management. Designed specifically for 4 to 6 year olds, the trail
aimed to engage young minds and introduce Little India’s rich cultural heritage.
NAFA students researched and trained with early childhood specialists to put together
the programme, and also created costumes, props and activity booklets.

A Diploma in Dance Showcase
The annual dance graduation showcase aptly displayed the versatility of
our student dancers across genres, using different contemporary dance
choreographies. During his three-week residency in January 2016,
Associate Professor of Dance, from Purchase College, State University
of New York, Kevin Wynn, choreographed an exciting new work, entitled
Perforated Heartbeat, for the dance students. The production also
included new choreographies from NAFA Senior Dance Lecturer,
Gillian Tan; Adjunct Lecturer and Creative Director of
contemporary dance initiative FiveLines, Ezekiel Oliveira;
and independent dance artist Lee Mun Wai who was the
Artist-in-Residence. A dance piece by
Emily Kessler, an exchange student from the
Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College,
was also chosen from several from the
Dance Composition Final Works module.
