Best of Best Show 2020

An annual showcase curated by the School

of Art & Design (SOAD), the Best of Best

Show features the finest ideas and works

by the graduating diploma and degree

cohort from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts

(NAFA). This iteration presents 35 selected

works and projects by young artists and

designers from SOAD’s four programmes

– Fine Art, 3D Design, Design & Media, and

Fashion Studies.

The Best of Best Show 2020 curatorial

and selection framework hinges on the

current global pandemic that has impacted

the graduating cohort in the realisation of

their final-year projects: how have these

emerging art practitioners and creatives

overcome adversity in uncertain times,

embodied resilience and resourcefulness,

refreshed ways of making and stimulated

new modes of thinking?

Diverse in form and expression, this

year’s projects are manifested by the

NAFA spirit of adventure, exploration

and creativity in a contemplation of the

‘new normal’ in imagined and projected

futures, in a celebration of the present

through the stories that make us innately

human. By encapsulating the individual

preoccupations and collective aspirations

of this graduating cohort, Best of Best

Show 2020 brings forth these emergent

voices and gives hope to the future,

catalysed by their distinctive approaches

and ways of making.
