Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple

A decade ago, Sabrina Koh Li Lin received a scholarship from the Kwan Im Thong Hood
Cho Temple to pursue a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Practice. Today, Sabrina is
the Vice Dean of the Fine Art programme in the NAFA School of Art & Design. “It was a
great honour to be one of the first recipients of the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple
Scholarship. It has given me access to higher knowledge, the opportunity to hone my
artistic voice, and has shaped my personal growth as a creative.” Sabrina is one
of many who has benefitted from the Temple’s generosity.

The Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple has been a long-standing supporter of NAFA.
In 2004, the Temple donated $330,000 to the Academy for the existing three campuses.
This was followed by a donation of $1.5 million, in 2006, to set up the Kwan Im Thong
Hood Cho Temple Fund. In 2007, the Temple donated a further $800,000, bringing the
total Scholarship Fund to $2.3 million. Over the years, the Temple has continued to add
to the fund, enabling NAFA to award scholarships to many students in hardship. In all,
36 NAFA students have been beneficiaries of the Temple’s donations.

Most recently, in 2016, the Temple generously donated $5 million in response to
NAFA’s request for financial assistance. This donation has been vital in enabling NAFA
to pursue several initiatives: the new campus building; additional financial assistance to
students; a new fellowship award to recognise outstanding NAFA staff; support for the
NAFA Music Alumni Series; and the expansion of the NAFA Library resources.
In appreciation of the Temple’s generosity, on 28 October 2016, the NAFA Library was
officially named the “Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Library.” This new name honours
the Temple’s contribution, encouraging and supporting learning and helping NAFA to
                                             realise its vision.

The NAFA Board, management, staff and students are most grateful to Kwan Im Thong
Hood Cho Temple for its generous and unwavering support throughout the years.
