VERNACULA_
Commissioned for SG50, VERNACULA_ presented works by a group
of photographers, time-lapse photographers and artists who illustrated
the identity of Singapore and her people. Through objects, sculptures,
mixed media works, photographs and time-lapse videos, the exhibition
showcased multiple social and historical narratives of Singapore,
celebrating the country’s idiosyncrasies and aspirations. The exhibition
was put together by NAFA’s Senior Design & Media Lecturer Roi Hew,
Lecturer Erica Lai and fellow NAFA colleagues. Support from the
SG50 Collaboration Fund was received for this project.
Graduation Fashion Show 2015
83 graduating students from the Fashion Studies’ Diploma in Fashion Design; the
Diploma in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing; the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Fashion
as well as the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion and Marketing courses impressed the
crowds with their avant-garde and ready-to-wear collections on 27 and 28 May 2015.
Ranging from womenswear, menswear, to kidswear, the diverse collections showcased
were a testament to the breadth and depth of the talents’ training at NAFA.
Awards were also given out to deserving students and projects from all four courses
on both nights. Amongst the recipients, Liew Yeow Chung from the Diploma in Fashion
Design studies received the Ready-To-Wear Award. The Best Commercial Viability Award
was presented to Gamine team members, which comprised of Thet Htet Naing, Silvia,
Venny Poernomo and Qi Qiu Xuan from Diploma in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing,
as well as Camillia Ow from Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion and Marketing. The event
was graced by Guests of Honour Ms Sharon Lim, Editor-in-Chief of ELLE Singapore and
Ms Sharon Au, Lead of Mediacorp’s styleXstyle.
School of Art & Design Graduation
and Best of Best Shows 2015
A fine display of the most thought-provoking ideas, the School of Art & Design held
its first combined graduation show in 2015. It featured over 500 works by graduating
diploma and degree students. At the diploma exhibition opening, the inaugural NAFA
Fine Art Graduating Awards were given out to outstanding Fine Art students
by Dr Woon Tien Wei, a representative from the Woon Brothers Foundation.
Ms Leny Suparman, Group CEO and Executive Director of KOP Limited, launched
the degree show and also presented the Best Studentship Awards to the top students
of their respective programmes. The Best of Best Show, which highlighted a curated
selection of the most remarkable ideas and works by the graduating cohorts,
was held from 23 June to 11 July 2015.
