Chairman’s Message
What a busy and fruitful year it has been for NAFA.
The Academy carried out a strategic review in 2014 to
re-define its vision and mission as an arts institution and
craft a new strategic plan. NAFA’s full-time diploma and
degree programmes were restructured across
three schools - the School of Art and Design (SOAD)
which offers studies in Fine Art, Design and Media,
Fashion and 3D Design, the School of Music (SOM)
which offers classical Western and Chinese music studies,
and the School of Arts Management, Dance and Theatre
(SOAMDT). This is aimed at streamlining the academic
structure and enhancing the design and delivery of our
courses, which is in line with NAFA’s continuing quest to
inspire learning and growth through the arts. I am heartened
by the strong support of the board, staff and management
in charting the way forward for NAFA. The effective
implementation of the strategic plan will be led by NAFA
President Mr Chia Mia Chiang, whom I thank for moving
NAFA into the next phase of its development after only
six months of assuming leadership.
NAFA remains committed to providing quality education
with a range of student-centric services to better cater to
the needs of our students and graduates. As such, the 2014
Graduate Employment Survey findings were favourable
with significant improvements in ratings for NAFA and
its lecturers when compared to 2013. We are presently
working on strengthening our internship programme and
industry networks through the NAFA Career Service Portal,
launched last October. This is a skill-matching online
platform for alumni and new graduates who are seeking
work. Over 1,300 potential employers have registered,
making the portal an invaluable tool for graduates to utilise.
In addition, the Alumni Portal was launched in November last
year to strengthen our relationship with past graduates and
boost their sense of belonging with their alma mater.
To create a better learning and teaching environment,
the NAFA board has made a decision to press on with the
building of Campus 4. This expansion will not only provide
more teaching facilities but will also create an integrated and
lively environment for students. We are working with one
heart and mind to galvanise fundraising efforts, and would
like to extend the invitation to parents, students and alumni
to help us fulfil this dream.
We are proud of the milestones that NAFA reached this year;
our School of Music celebrated 30 years of music education,
