GALLERY
A series of sketches and illustrations that depict a ghostly, enigmatic tale in the vein of horror writers like M.R. James and Edith Nesbit. The drawings alternate between abstract and illustrative, depicting a story with no end.
Sample from 'Viral', featuring an unnamed heroine.
Further detail on the drawings for 'Viral', featuring a glimpse of a supernatural antagonist.
An alternate arrangement of 'Viral', consisting of torn, reconstituted drawings that mutate the narrative presented in the past work. Faces and body parts are re-arranged to attain a particularly eccentric outcome.
Sample from 'Mutagen', featuring the torn format of the drawings.
BIOGRAPHY
(Artist Statement)
Nicholas’ practice explores the significance of the human face as the vessel for meaningful conversations. Armed with a profound love for portraiture and friends, family and mentors, his work serves as a reminder about the intimacy and preciousness of human company in an age dominated by digital and online communication. By utilising commonly found stationery from a school environment, such as ballpoint pens and highlighters, Nicholas’ artwork aims to re-affirm the significance of the diverse people in his life, both in and outside of his time in school, to encourage viewers to embrace the fundamentals of human interaction.
FINAL YEAR PROJECT
'14 Portraits' is a personal study of the art of conversation and the fluidity in which such interactions change. Executed in ballpoint and highlighter, the drawings represent a one-on-one conversation with the viewer.
