A graduating show is often seen as a culmination, but it is also a record of a much longer journey. Behind every work at The Grad Expectations 2026 lies a sustained process of inquiry, practice, critique, iteration and discovery.
This year’s showcase reflects both technical accomplishment and the emergence of distinct creative voices. Across the disciplines, our graduates have learned to refine their craft while engaging new advanced digital tools as part of their creative process. Importantly, they have come to understand that while technology can extend imagination and capability, it is craft, judgement, values, and identity that give creative work its meaning and integrity. Many of these projects also signal an openness to collaboration and to working across disciplines, sectors, and modes of practice. In a rapidly shifting job market and an uncertain future landscape, these qualities remain essential.
It gives me particular joy to see the range of approaches across this cohort, and the seriousness with which you have engaged not only with your chosen disciplines, but with questions of relevance and impact. Your practices are already reaching beyond traditional boundaries, towards emerging fields such as healthcare, social and community work, sustainability, technology, and new frontiers in entertainment and cultural production. Such adaptability and openness will be vital in navigating the careers ahead.
I congratulate all our graduates on reaching this important milestone. May this showcase mark not an ending, but the beginning of the next stage of your creative lives. I hope you will continue to learn, collaborate, experiment with new tools, and remain grounded in the craft, values and identities that make your work uniquely your own!
