Dear Graduates of 2025,
Congratulations on your graduation.
This milestone represents the culmination of an inspiring journey—one marked by dedication, countless hours of refinement, and a relentless pursuit of professional excellence. The designs you’ve presented are not only innovative but also a testament to your creativity and unwavering commitment to the craft.
Fashion in Singapore has undergone a remarkable evolution. In the post-war era, traditional attire dominated the landscape—Malay women often wore the baju kurong, appreciated for its suitability to the tropical climate; Indian women adorned themselves in elegant saris; and Chinese women favoured the cheongsam and sumfu for their grace and style. During that time, Western fashion remained largely accessible only to the affluent or those with overseas exposure.
As the local fashion scene matured, international labels began entering the market. Simultaneously, homegrown designers emerged, bringing with them a wave of creativity and innovation. These pioneers played a pivotal role in shaping a unique Singaporean fashion identity—one that harmoniously blends cultural heritage with modern aesthetics.
As you step into the next chapter, take pride in your achievements. You have earned this moment, and your hard work has not gone unnoticed. Yet, this is only the beginning. The path forward will present both challenges and triumphs. Embrace them with resilience, stay true to your passion, and continue to strive for excellence.
