Biography

Alya Rahmat (b.2002) is a young artist based in Singapore. Her artistic practice revolves around secrecy and the concept of clandestine.

The nature of her works explores the subject matter of female identity and the concerns within the Malay-Muslim community be it culturally or the supernatural.

While her course of study is grounded in oil painting, Alya is constantly exploring various mediums and practices, resulting in explorations in installations and writings. In an attempt to carve new meanings through art, Alya hopes to spark conversations through her work to further understand the self.

Alya has had the opportunity to present her installation artwork in a student collaboration exhibition titled Imagining New Futures at Gillman Barracks in 2021. She was also awarded a NAFA achievement on the Dean’s List Award, AY20/21.
