In The Third Space, NAFA choreographers draw on their diverse imaginings. Gillian Tan (Singapore) ponders the prose of Blaise Pascal; Aditep Buanoi (Thailand) contemplates measuring the intangible; Hwa Wei-An (Malaysia) challenges the ‘art of falling’; and Richard Chappell (United Kingdom) delves into an out-of-body and other worldly experience. They position their work at the ‘inter’, which is defined by post-colonial culture academic Homi Bhabha as the cutting edge of translation and negotiation.

The Third Space is part of da:ns festival’s Next Generation platform, which showcases young dancers from tertiary arts institutions in Singapore and allows them to hone their performance skills. Students work with international and local choreographers invited by their schools to learn about the different approaches to dance creation.
