2018 marks NAFA’s 80th year of its founding in 1938, the oldest fine art institution in Singapore known for her illustrious alumni, renowned faculty and teaching excellence. Over the decades, NAFA has played a significant role in nurturing the cultural leaders of today and the future. This celebratory exhibition marks her 80th milestone in art-making which will take place at the recently reopened Liu Haisu Art Museum in Shanghai this October. Showcasing the works of 13 outstanding NAFA alumni who have been conferred Singapore’s highest national artistic award, the Cultural Medallion, this survey exhibition highlights their contributions to Singapore's artistic landscape and arts education, providing insight into what remains relevant to contemporary art and globalisation today.

In conjunction with the exhibition, alumni artists Han Sai Por and Lee Hock Moh will share with the audience in Shanghai, their approach in art making and research and how traditions and values have played a role in conveying their artistic language in their chosen medium. Dr Ho Kah Leong, former NAFA principal and alumni artist, will touch on NAFA’s history, offering insight into the understanding art practices of Singapore.

NAFA aims to promote Singaporean artists as well as scholarship of art practices in Southeast Asia, and the geographical region of historical Nanyang, with the international art community through partnerships with institutions such as Liu Haisu Art Museum.
