Certificate in Garment Construction

Introduction

This course is designed for those interested to acquire basic flat pattern making and sewing skills that are essential for women’s wear construction. Both pattern making and sewing will be taught concurrently to construct a garment in each module. Apart from pattern making, learners will receive clear instructions and guidance on the various techniques and methods for handling fabrics, cutting and sewing garment components according to industrial practices.

 

Terms and Conditions

Learners will be presented a Certificate upon successful completion of the course.

Module 1 - Construct a Basic Skirt (8 sessions x 3 hours)

This module provides the essential hands-on skills to construct a made-to-measure skirt. Learners will acquire knowledge of the basic principles of flat pattern making from taking body measurements to drafting a variety of skirts such as a pencil skirt, A-line skirt, gather skirt and circular skirt. Learners will also learn the skill of sewing a basic skirt using an industry lock stitch sewing machine and overlock machine.

Module 2 - Construct a Basic Sleeveless Blouse (8 sessions x 3 hours)

This module equips learners with the foundation to draft and sew a basic sleeveless blouse with centre-front button opening. Learners will apply appropriate garment ease to the bodice block and perform dart manipulations on the various parts of the upper torso. A variety of necklines, collars and their finishing methods will be taught in this module.

Applicants must be 17 years old and above.

Subsidies

SkillsFuture Credit
All Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their $500 SkillsFuture Credit from the government to pay for a wide range of approved skills-related courses. Visit the SkillsFuture Credit website (www.skillsfuture.sg/credit) to choose from the courses available on the Training Exchange course directory.

National Silver Academy
Applicable to Singaporean seniors aged 50 and above who will receive a subsidy of 50% off the course fee (capped at $500 per course). Please note that the subsidy will only apply to the course fee and will not cover GST.

Union Training Assistance Programme
Applicable to NTUC Union members who will enjoy 50% unfunded course fee support for up to $250 each year. Visit the NTUC website for more details.

80 Bencoolen Street (S) 189655. The student's name, NRIC/Passport number and contact number must be written on the reverse side of the cheque.

Refund of Fees

Withdrawal within 14 days before the course commencement date Course fee^ will be refunded after deduction of S$107.00 as administrative charges.
Withdrawal on or after course commencement date
No refund will be given.
^Registration fees and miscellaneous fees are non-refundable.

Cancellation/ Postponement

  • NAFA reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course without prior notice.
    In the event that the class is unable to proceed due to unforeseen circumstances, NAFA will process a full refund of the course fees.

Withdrawal/ Deferment/ Transfer

  • Withdrawal or deferment requests should be made in writing with supporting relevant documents (if any) to Centre for Lifelong Education. Request for deferment is subject to approval.
  • No deferment is allowed once the course has commenced.
  • No transfer of course upon registration.

Replacement of Classes

  • There is strictly no replacement lesson should the participant absent himself/herself from the course.
