To be able to make music with friends is happiness, and I have found many such friends during my time in NAFA.
Jeremiah is currently an adjunct lecturer at his alma mater, teaching a variety of modules including orchestration and composition. Besides actively teaching at NAFA, Jeremiah heads the local contemporary chamber music group Chamber.Sounds. The goal of Chamber.Sounds is to promote Singaporean contemporary music to Singaporeans and to the rest of the world.
Since its inception in 2005, Chamber.Sounds has featured more than 10 local composers in their concerts, and has reached out to overseas composers from Canada, Japan, Australia and more. Comprising NAFA graduates from the 2007 Diploma in Music, Chamber.Sounds provides an interactive environment, not just for local composers but also local musicians and artistes from other fields to showcase, share and enjoy each other’s crafts - to help support a growth in the interest for the arts and its current development.
Other than managing Chamber.Sounds, Jeremiah is also an active composer with a couple of accolades under his belt. He is a sought after composer whose music is challenging and virtuosic, with an unyielding tenacity towards the treatment of dissonances. He is also inspired by passacaglias, ground basses and other ostinati.
He is also currently the associate artiste at Odyssey Dance Theatre serving as their composer-in-residence. In his spare time, Jeremiah sits quietly with a cup of tea and folds complex origami models.
