Listening to northwestern chinese folk songs is a moving experience. It is full of life, showcasing the unique customs of this piece of music and creating incredible scenes. On 12 April, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (in partnership with the Xi'an Conservatory of Music) will present ‘Yellow Earth’, a collaborative concert that spans both music and paintings. It will also feature Zhao Dun, a painter/sculptor of the Chang’an Painting School as well as folk singers from the Shaanxi province.
Sunny Wong, Head of Chinese Instrumental Studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, shared with Lianhe Zaobao that in the past few years, NAFA has often collaborated with major arts institutes in China, with the aim of exposing students to a variety of Chinese music, as well as improving music standards. He also mentioned that this collaboration between NAFA and the Xi’an Conservatory of Music is a rare opportunity. The NAFA Chinese Orchestra enables both teachers and students to share the stage together.
