(From left) Tenor Zheng Yuanzhi, second soprano Anna Koor and soprano Phoebe Chee will perform a new musical piece at the “Rhapsody in Verse” concert.
Poetry, by nature, is ambiguous and malleable, which opens up many avenues for collaboration and reinvention. Rhapsody In Verse brings together the works of 16 Singaporean Chinese poets across different generations and will be featured in this year’s Singapore Writers Festival. The work of these poets are set to new and original music by six young composers, who believe that through this approach, the audience would be able to better understand the poems presented. This unique concert showcases the beauty of lyricism in Chinese via a mix of ensembles and choirs, accompanied by piano.
Recent NAFA graduate Phoebe Chee, who will be one of the features of this event, shared that she had sung many of her peers’ works and she is always surprised by their incredible talent and potential.
