Lim Soo Ngee, a senior lecturer at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, was awarded the Ngee Ann Artist of the Year Award by the Ngee Ann Cultural Centre. He is the first sculptor to win the award since its inception in 1999. When he was interviewed, Lim humbly shared that he was surprised when he was informed that he won the award this year.
Lim is a native of Jieyang (in Chaozhou) and studied in NAFA in 1989, taking sculpting lessons from sculptor Han Shaofu. He has been teaching at NAFA for 28 years. Eight of his works are currently being showcased at the currently ongoing ‘21st Ngee Ann National Teochew Artists’ Exhibition 2019’.
