The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) inked a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 1 April 2022 to preserve and promote traditional Chinese arts, music, and culture. The MOU was signed by SCO Executive Director Mr Terrence Ho and NAFA President Mrs Tan-Soh Wai Lan in the presence of Minister of Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister of Law, Mr Edwin Tong.

With this partnership, NAFA students will gain learning and internship experience, allowing them to develop a sense of the working pace and the standard of professional orchestras. NAFA President Mrs Tan echoed this in her speech, "SCO is an industry benchmark in the local Chinese music scene. Our students are honored to receive the opportunity to be under SCO’s mentorship to develop their craft and gain an in-depth understanding of the Chinese culture."

Mr Sunny Wong Sun Tat, Head of Chinese Instrumental Studies in NAFA added, "The signing of the MOU is a milestone and presents valuable opportunities for our Chinese music students to gain exposure in the industry and lay a solid foundation for their future careers.”

After the signing ceremony, 9 SCO performers and 14 NAFA students presented a splendid concert. NAFA alumna Wang Siyuan expressed that the opportunity to be on the same stage as the SCO is extremely important and valuable.
