Fine Art student Grace Angel created 'Remembering the Unremembered', a mixed media artwork installation that pays homage to the victims of two grim events in Indonesia's history – the 30 September Movement and the May 1998 riots.
Beyond being a memorial, Grace wants her work to raise awareness for the consequence of these events, and the families involved that were not acknowledged. While putting together the work, she was unsure of how to best communicate a message that was neutral and unbiased. Furthermore, uncovering these difficult parts of history which her own family went through, meant that she needed to take herself out of that perspective that was personal, and focus on the bigger picture.
