Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) proudly presents NAFA Convocation 2020, its first-ever virtual convocation ceremony to be held on 25 September 2020 (Friday), from 4pm to 6pm. This online event will see the academy confer 905 certificates to its graduates from 18 Diploma and 9 Degree courses.
The virtual ceremony will include welcome remarks by the President of NAFA, words of encouragement from the Deans of NAFA’s School of Art & Design, School of Arts Management, Dance & Theatre and School of Music as well as speeches by valedictorians from each Academic School. Alongside the conferment of certificates, awards such as the Embassy of Peru Award, The Ngee Ann Kongsi Gold Medal and the Wu Tsung Kan Book Prize will also be presented.
For the first time in the academy’s 82 years, the annual event will be held virtually, allowing graduates and their loved ones from around the world to be a part of this momentous occasion. This effort hallmarks ingenuity and resilience consequential to the COVID-19 pandemic, exemplifying qualities necessary to flourish in trying times. Ultimately, it is a celebration of hope and strength for the class of 2020 as they charter new paths.
Mr Jerry Soo, Vice President (Academic) stated the importance of overcoming challenges to deliver the ceremony, “Graduation is a key milestone in all students’ academic journey. Although the global pandemic has posed inconveniences, our graduates deserve to be acknowledged for their achievements. It is imperative for us to celebrate their growth, close this chapter in their journey and send them off into the world. As we circumvented challenges to present this ceremony, it has further strengthened our future-readiness as a premier, progressive and leading arts institution.”
To date, over 15,000 individuals have graduated from NAFA. Many have gone on to contribute to the arts and creative landscape both at home and abroad, garnering numerous accolades and awards along the way.
At the ceremony, various outstanding students will be recognised for their accomplishments during their time at NAFA. Multidisciplinary artist Ang Xue Ning is one of NAFA’s distinguished students who will be receiving two awards - The Ngee Ann Kongsi Gold Medal and Best Graduate Award (Diploma in Fine Art).
