Cooling and dehumidification are the biggest challenges when it comes to living in the tropics. This year's "IKEA Singapore Young Designer Award" features entries by design students of various colleges and universities who are addressing these challenges. They showcase how these designs are able to improve the environment we live in, as well as the overall quality of life.

The SOLARtido table lamp designed by Chen Jiawen, Lai Wenkai and Ko Na Yeon from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts has a removable solar panel under the lamp holder. During the day, it is attached to the window with a suction pad to take in energy from the sun; it can be removed at night.
