The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) ushers in the Lunar New Year with Hui Chun “挥春” 2022. Held over the weekend of 22 and 23 January 2022, this year’s exhibition features 65 art pieces from over 30 artists, including choice entries from the NAFA Chinese Art Competition, Chinese Ink Painting and Calligraphy pieces from the Hui Chun Collection, as well as selections from the NAFA Collection. Along with the annual physical exhibition, an online gallery will be available from 15 Jan to 28 Feb 2022 for greater accessibility to enjoy the artworks.

Distinguished artists such as Mr Stephen Leong, Mr Sim Pang Liang and Mr Fan Shao Hua have expressed a warm welcome of the vernal season by penning Spring couplets which illustrate prosperity, vigour, and abundance. These couplets will be on display in the gallery, alongside pieces from the NAFA collection, including works by Cultural Medallion recipients Lim Tze Peng (Red Flowers in Spring) and Tan Kian Por (Willow); and renowned NAFA alumni Aw Tee Hong (Trengganu Street) and Poon Lian (House in a Bamboo Forest and The Shore in Evening), 2020’s Ngee Ann Artist of the Year.

NAFA Chinese Art Competition

Hui Chun 2022 will feature 12 pieces from the third edition of the NAFA Chinese Art Competition. Started in 2020, the competition aims to raise interest for Chinese Calligraphy and Ink, encouraging more artists to explore ink as a medium. Held from 15 October to 30 November 2021, the competition was opened to NAFA Centre for Lifelong Education students, Diploma and Degree undergraduates, and recent graduates (within the past 3 years). This year, Koh Eng Tat emerged as the competition’s Gold Award winner, with his calligraphy piece梅舒笑脸迎春至 鹊换新声报喜来 (The Plum Blossom Welcomes Spring, the Magpie Brings Good News).

NAFA invites you to join us in celebrating new beginnings and the Lunar New Year, as the academy continues inspiring learning and growth through the arts, while showcasing its spirit of creativity and exploration.
