If there is a brooch that looks like your daily route to work or school, would you wear it? The After2 exhibition at NAFA showcases furniture, product and jewellery design by second and third year students of the 3D Design Programme. Chen Jiaqi designed a jewellery collection, ‘Odysseia’, based on the travel route of residents who live in Woodlands who travel downtown for work daily, showing that Singapore’s terrain and daily life are not as unremarkable or as uninteresting as we imagine.
Another ‘eye-catching’ jewellery design is ‘Les Yeux’ by Zhang Yee Ying. This collection is inspired by human eyes. Liquid is injected into the jewellery, reflecting the light at different angles, like the eyes of Japanese anime girls. Cecilia Hermanto was inspired by a beetle and designed a series of brooches "Videre" that refracted different colours as the light changes.
Fadzli Jamil, Vice-Dean of the 3D Design Programme, said: “after2 provides an opportunity for students to present their works not just for the sole purpose of exhibition but also for a retail market.”
