In Singapore’s Chinese music scene, the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO) is where many young talents studying Chinese music aim to be. In this article, the SNYCO presents a line-up of young musicians that are re-energising the scene. One musician is a NAFA alumna, Xu Minhui. Below is an excerpt:

Xu Minhui might be young, but she has been in the SNYCO for seven years. Her family background is unique -- she grew up conversing in English with her family, and her brother and sister grew up learning the violin and piano respectively. Her sister is currently a piano teacher in America. She said that when she was a child, her parents asked what musical instrument she would like to learn. She said that she did not want to be like her siblings. At the time, her school had a Chinese orchestra and she chose to try it out.

She graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2011, and successfully entered the SNYCO.
