Senior School Counsellor, Office of Student Care (2-year contract)

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with staff, students, parents, external professionals and community agencies to provide quality school counselling support for students’ mental health and social-emotional development. Key roles and responsibilities as follow:
    1. Identify students who need pastoral care and provide counselling to students individually or in groups
    2. Work with staff and students in providing direct crisis interventions
    3. Work with academic staff to identify accommodations for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
    4. Refer students and their families to community resources or external professionals where needed
    5. Manage and coordinate appointments of students
    6. Communicate with staff, parents and external professionals/agencies on pertinent counselling matters
    7. Maintain case consultation records and provide regular updates on the progress of students being seen by the external counsellor
    8. Review external counsellor performance with Head
    9. Plan and conduct training for staff on pertinent mental health issues and skills for first-line intervention and support
    10. Develop and conduct small and large group psycho-educational sessions for students on mental health issues and healthy coping strategies
    11. Develop and/or avail mental health resources for students, staff, and parents
  • Support in-house student events such as Freshmen Orientation, Student Night, Fun Day and other ad hoc activities as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree/Professional Certification in counselling
  • At least 5 years of working experience in educating, counselling and/or volunteer work involving youths and adults. Experience with special education needs will be an advantage
  • Must have a flair, understanding and patience to work with youths
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good event management, planning and organisational skills
  • Familiar with MS Office software and must be IT savvy
