Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide academic leadership and support in managing the academic and operational administration of assigned courses or Programme, which include:
    1. undertaking 20 to 24 contact/teaching hours per week during term time teaching art modules, including studio and research knowledge, professional and industry practices, art history and theory modules
    2. providing support to the other Diploma programme (Art Teaching) in terms of studio practice component
    3. coordinating the design, preparation and development of documents (such as Module Guide) and teaching resources
    4. contributing and collating input on the review of curriculum and academic activities
    5. coordinating and preparing reports relating to students’ progress, performance and attendance
    6. overseeing the conduct of students’ assignments/works/projects
    7. performing supervisory duties such as organising regular briefing and dialogue with lecturing staff, inducting new full-time or adjunct lecturers, setting the ethos for teaching, and conducting class observations
    8. keeping up to date on the development of related courses or Programmes, including teaching practice and learning strategy
  • Plan and organise a variety of activities, such as workshops, exhibitions, performances, Open House, marketing outreach programmes or any internal/external events
  • Mentor and provide pastoral care and support to students, including career guidance and Industry-based learning (IBL) supervision
  • Establish and maintain links with the industry and institutions, to foster a total approach of academic pursuit alongside industry practice
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration and research
  • Participate in Programme / School level strategic planning and contribute to the Academy’s strategic planning process

Requirements

  • Minimum qualification of a Master of Fine Arts or associated subject
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching and relevant working experience in the Visual Arts industry
  • Inter/Multi/Trans-disciplinary in both attitude and approach
  • Evidence of research, knowledge exchange and/ or professional practice that contributes to the advancement of Fine Art activity and is relevant to the goals of the Programme, School and Academy
  • Effective pedagogical methodologies to teach these modules with an established track record; an inquiring, innovative and reflexive approach to teaching;
  • Considers equality, diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of teaching and assessment;
  • Positive, enthusiastic, inspiring and holding up standards with the ability to engage students in their learning. Shows commitment to understanding the range of students’ experiences within the Fine Art course
  • Strong command of written and spoken English, good command of second language
  • A strong team player who can collaborate, work effectively and respectfully across different professional groups
  • Fosters inclusive and constructive teamwork and problem-solving
