| So inspired was Mendelssohn by the sheer beauty and mystery of Fingal’s Cave that he divined some of the finest tone pictures in his Hebrides Overture; replete with crashing waves and colourful pillars of basalt, which in his prodigious hands transcend into deeper shades of solitude, power and majesty. |
