Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Chinese Ensemble and soloists
Tay Soon Huat - Director

Featuring Chinese traditional ethnic music performed by the students of NAFA Department of Music.

Programme :
Following the well received concert in April this year at the Victoria Concert Hall, the NAFA Chinese Ensemble will be presenting another challenging programme featuring traditional Chinese pieces, ranging from folk music to contemporary full scale works. A highlight of the one hour programme includes '春江花月夜' (Moonlight over Spring River), a piece originally written for Pipa entitled ‘夕阳箫鼓' (The Xiao and Drum at Sunset) during the 1920s. The two lead instruments are the 琵琶 (Pipa) and 箫 (Xiao).

'西北组曲之石板腰鼓 “(North West Suite:The Stone Stab Waist Drums ) is the finale item. This piece integrates the human voice and the instruments in the composition, capturing the liveliness and optimistic nature of the people from North West rural areas in China.
