Students who have had prior training in Chinese instruments such as the erhu, guzheng, yangqin, liuqin, ruan, pipa or dizi may enrol in the Elementary, Intermediate or Advanced Chinese Instrumentalists course, depending on their individual standards. At the end of each level, students will sit for the Graded Examination jointly conducted by NAFA and the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music.
 
Elementary (Grade 1 - 3) : For students aged 7 - 8 years
Intermediate (Grade 3 - 4) : For students aged 9 - 11 years
Advanced (Grade 7 - 9) : For students aged 12 - 14 years
 
For Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced classes under the Gifted Young Chinese Instrumentalists course, the following course options are available at different fees :
 
A) Practical
  1 session per week (60-minute 2-in-a group lesson)
  Theory
  1 session per week (60-minute group lesson)
   
B) Practical
  1 session per week (45-minute individual lesson)
  Theory
  1 session per week (60-minute group lesson)
   
C) Practical*
  1 session per week (60-minute 2-in-a group lesson)
   
D) Practical*
  1 session per week (45-minute individual lesson)
   
* A student who has Grade 5 ABRSM Theory certificate can have only Practical lessons
 
Duration Elementary : 1.5 years
  Intermediate : 2.5 years
  Advanced : 3 years
   
Requirement Applicants must pass the audition
  Elementary : Basic Chinese instrumental training
  Intermediate : Possess training relevant to intermediate standards
  Advanced : Possess training relevant to advanced standards

Important Notes
1) Internal examinations will be conducted half yearly to monitor the student’s progress.
   
2) Students of Cello, Piano, and Violin Elementary Classes are required to sit for the ABRSM examinations. Students of Chinese Instrument Classes are required to sit for the Graded Examination for Chinese Instruments organised jointly by NAFA and Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing. Students of Intermediate and Diploma Classes are required to perform in public concerts and participate in National or International Competitions.
   
3) Each student (except those in Preparatory Class) is required to perform on stage at least twice per semester at masterclasses. This strengthens the child’s confidence in concert performance as well as provides platform for students, parents and teachers to share their experiences and opinions, working in a combined effort to improve teaching quality.
   
4) The student’s suitability for the Gifted Programes shall be determined by his/her attitude towards learning and music potential.
 
5) a) For Junior Music Gifted Young Pianist Course, Gifted Young Violinists Course and Gifted Young Cellists Course, one semester covers 5.5 months. Fees are payable by semester and cover 20 practical lessons, 20 theory lessons, as well as masterclasses, and examinations.
     
  b) For Junior Music Gifted Young Chinese Instrumentalists Course, one semester covers 5 months. Fees are payable by semester and cover 18 practical lessons, 20 theory lessons, as well as masterclasses, and examinations.
   
6) Any Junior Music student who takes two different instruments need only attend one theory class. $110 (before GST) will be deducted from the monthly school fees.
 
Registration Registration for above Junior Music courses begins in May and November for July and January intakes respectively.
