This course provides an introduction to the basics of ceramics through hands-on sessions that covered various hand-building techniques to ways of designing and decorating simple ceramic forms. Weekly sessions serve to instruct the learner of the overall process required, from clay preparation, forms making, drying, and glazing. This basic process cycle will be reinforced as students venture to build forms of increasing complexity.
Term 1 & 2 (3 hr-session x 20 weeks)
Introduction to materials and equipment. Basic ceramic skills-pinch pots: making bowl; hand building techniques: making box with a lid, hollowing, slab-building, coiling.
Term 3 & 4 (3 hr-session x 20 weeks)
Decoration : Decoration with clay, pre-patterned decoration, texturing clay, prints from clay, creating line in clay. Glazing and Glaze application: over and under glaze. Throwing on the wheel: cups, bowls, dishes, vases, pitcher and bottle forms, tea pot forms - attach teapot spouts and handles.

S$370.00 per term (10 weeks) (excluding GST)
Registration
Registration begins in November and May for courses commencing in January and July, respectively.
