In Collaboration with Loughborough University

Students undertaking Loughborough programmes will experience 1 week of orientation and 6 weeks of on campus studies in Loughborough University. They will live, study and work on assigned projects in Loughborough from end of September to mid-November before returning to NAFA to complete their studies. This internationalisation attachment is equivalent to 30 credits out of a total of 120 credits within the academic year.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Fine Art programme will help students reinforce critical, imaginative and expressive skills in contemporary art practice, and to foster a deep understanding of diverse methodologies that enables a critical framework for specialist art production, study and research. The students will demonstrate self-reflexivity, good communication skills, and undertake research into material and conceptual issues independently. This independence will be encouraged during their 7-week study trip to Loughborough University, U.K. during the first semester.

As contemporary art practitioners, they will acquire a sound understanding of the larger theoretical context and milieu of contemporary international art, with the potential to contribute actively and constructively to the creative industries both in a local as well as global context. |

SAC116 - Professional Fine Art Practice
Students will develop a critical and studio based platform from which to prepare for the final project of Semester Two. They will broaden their practice to incorporate more challenging content and use of materials, as well as consolidate a critical position in respect of contemporary and historical precedents; identifying links and differences in the contemporary global arena of Fine Art practice.

SAC500- Art and Design Dissertation
This module provides students the opportunity to benefit from long term independent study, with the freedom to study an area of personal interest in some depth. When choosing a topic, students will be encouraged to consider the coherence of their programme / practice and the possibility of connections and cross-fertilisations between their research topic and the work conducted in the studio/workshop. Whilst direct relevance may be desirable for many students, it is by no means essential.

SAC117 - Fine Art Practice: Final Project
Students will prepare for and curate a final assessment exhibition in relation to their Semester Two exhibition proposal. Their objective is to produce a coherent and original body of work which will be displayed in an appropriate manner. Although the work is largely produced under the student’s own direction, there are consultations with academic and technical staff as needed. There may be external projects, commissions and short one-off projects that are an assessable component of the module. Students will have the opportunity to present their work in discussion with visiting lecturers, staff and other students. They will be able to write and execute an exhibition proposal demonstrating ambition, critical understanding and awareness of cross-cultural contexts, producing and exhibiting work to the highest possible professional standard.
