By definition, “vernacular” refers to the language or dialect spoken by the people of a country or region; and often indicates a person's mother tongue that is learnt as a first language.
VERNACULA_ showcases artworks that bring out the typical Singapore perspective. Through objects, sculpture, mixed media works, photographs and time-lapse videos, the exhibition carries multiple social and historical narratives of Singapore and her identity.
VERNACULA_ is commissioned for SG50, organised jointly by the Fine Art and Design & Media programmes.
