“Continuum in Clay” presents ceramic works by three generations of NAFA alumni who are also current lecturers and staff – Peter Low, Alvin Tan and Deva Raj. Peter has been teaching at NAFA since the 1990s and mentored numerous ceramics students, one of them being Alvin Tan who graduated in 2000. Passing on the baton, Alvin has also returned to teach at his alma mater and guided Deva who is now a technical tutor at NAFA.

This exhibition presents a continuum and development of techniques, forms and expressions amongst these three artists, demonstrating their attitudes, concerns and questions towards contemporary society.

Clay as an Expression - The Continuity of a Craft Practice

Saturday, 14 March 2015, 2pm

By manipulating an ancient material that we stand on, to create and express, Alvin Tan creates ceramic objects which attempt to address his experience with the ever-changing environment. Through the process of his art making, a conversation generates between the maker and his products.
