Video Production

This major aims to present the principles, theories and techniques surrounding video production from conception to final output; and provide instruction in the basic skills required for successfully producing a film within a specified deadline.

Film & Camera Techniques
This course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge in the understanding and operation of video cameras and lighting equipment. Technical terms and cinematography techniques will be covered including focusing, exposure, white balance and audio as well as exploring creative camera effects. Students will also learn the importance of lighting design for both exterior and interior productions.

Acting & Directing
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the methods of acting and directing for film. The course will cover the fundamentals for scene direction, shot visualisation and the rehearsal of actors for video production.

Film History
This module examines the theoretical and aesthetic context of film and film movements from the pioneering days of silent movies through to the high-tech blockbusters of today. Film styles, language and cultural importance will be discussed.

Digital Technology for Time Based Media
This module will introduce students to the technologies and terminology used in today’s media industry. The course explores the various formats used in video and animation production, Working with standard and high definition video and understanding video compression technologies for DVD authoring and other methods for final delivery.

Integrated Studio Project 2A – Video Production
This module requires students to complete an assigned project brief relevant to their major. Students are expected to demonstrate their skills and knowledge on their understanding gained throughout the semester. This is a development-based module which focuses on consultation, presentations, discussions and critiques of individual projects.

Storytelling & Scriptwriting

This course will examine the context of script writing and story telling in preparation for film, video and media production. The module covers the theory of dramatic conflict and the three-act structure, with emphasis on developing effective characters and dialogue and the creation of a formatted script that conforms to industry standards.
