Animation

This major introduces the concepts, techniques and principles of animation and short story telling with reference to production of animation using computers. Principles are introduced to the various stages of producing animation, such as pre-production, production and post-production through lecture material and participative sessions with practical techniques explored in the studio.

Character Design
This module is to provide the training for characters design. The student will learn the process of research, conceptualisation and presentation of their character design. The module will allow the students to gain the knowledge and apply the skills in the entertainment field such as animation, gaming and interactive media.

Digital 3D Studio – Design
This module provides students the required skills to produce 3D models in a computer-based environment. Students will be able to explore the techniques on modelling, texture mapping, lighting, camera setting and other effect through 3D application.

History of Animation
This module is to introduce students to the history of animation. The emphasis of this module will be on the understanding of techniques, style, content, historical and social context in various milestones in animation. Student should gain more knowledge in order to use them more efficiently in the future within the realm of animation production.

Principles of Animation
Students obtaining foundation skills in 2D animation techniques will learn the timing and weight through a series of projects designed to demonstrate the principles of animation. Emphasis is on the importance of concept development, sequencing, timing, and character development using traditional animation materials and procedures. Issues such as key framing, in between, deformation, and cycling will be focused.

Integrated Studio Project 2A – Animation
This module requires students to complete an assigned project brief relevant to their major. Students are expected to demonstrate their skills and knowledge on their understanding gained throughout the semester. This is a development-based module which focuses on consultation, presentations, discussions and critiques of individual projects.

Storytelling & Scriptwriting

This course will examine the context of script writing and story telling in preparation for film, video and media production. The module covers the theory of dramatic conflict and the three-act structure, with emphasis on developing effective characters and dialogue and the creation of a formatted script that conforms to industry standards.
